What support is available for my loved one who is nearing the end of their life journey?

Our residents, both long-term and newly admitted, are assured that the care, compassion and sense of community they expect at Providence Rest will also be there when they reach the end stage of their disease. The familiar and comforting care that is Providence Rest's standard is supplemented by palliative care and comfort measures provided by our interdisciplinary team. We also partner with home hospice programs to provide an extra benefit to our residents, when appropriate, at this time in their lives. Our End-of-Life Program is designed to meet the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of those entrusted to us, and their families, so that the end of their life may still be meaningful.

Pain is physically and emotionally debilitating. Severe pain can cause depression, anxiety, loss of appetite and loss of sleep. Our palliative care focuses on managing a resident's pain and alleviating associated symptoms. Then we concentrate on making our patients as comfortable as possible by honoring their preferences in all areas: food, bedtime, music, company, prayer and solitude. Our Pastoral Care staff works with residents and families to help them through the dying process and beyond. We provide bereavement counseling, as well.
